Islam and Iran cinema highlighted at FIFF

This year’s Fajr International Film Festival has put the spotlight on Islam and Iran. Here’s a commentary on the issue.

Media, politics and the public have been interrelated for decades, with the US making huge investments into providing its favorable account of the status-quo, most often a fabricated one.

The distorted image of the nations that have been withstanding the arrogant and hegemonic powers is what the US consecutive administrations have pursued and somehow achieved.

For example, the hardliner former US president George W. Bush gave the green light to American media to concoct stories that escalate Iranophobia and Islamophobia campaigns. Fox News for instance, fabricates news and presents a distorted image of Iran and Islam which push antagonism against Iran culture and doctrine.

That would justify the production of series such as Homeland and 24, to portrait a misrepresentation of the Islamic culture, which is in essence founded on peace and amity. In these series, they sketch a terroristic and primitive image of Islam and introduce Iranians as supporters of terrorism who target the world security!

The US has also massively politicized its cinema; when Michelle Obama, the former US First Lady, announced Argo as the best film of the 85th Oscars from the White House, it was crystal clear to what depth the US international politics has penetrated into its cinema.

Amid all the hue and cry by global arrogance, FIFF tries to provide a venue for marketing of films that reveal the truth, trying to promote cultural interaction with other cinematographers from other corners of the world.
